This work brings together four independent chapters, each dealing with a concrete problem in the multimedia field. Although the topics are different, they all have in common an approach oriented towards effective solutions, tested under realistic conditions and supported by measurable results. It is recommended to go through the chapters in order, as certain terms are explained when they are first encountered in the text.
The author does not pursue abstract excellence, but practical viability: all the methods described are tested and adapted to real constraints of cost, power and complexity. This is not a book about what works in an idealized model, but about what works in practice – how it works, with what performance, under what conditions and with what limitations.
