With the advent of the electronic computer, everything changed: habits, beliefs, occupations and concerns, priorities and aspirations. The penny itself, as a currency of exchange, undergoes an irreversible transformation, from the material to the virtual concept. We trade, negotiate, optimize our life course by processing numerical data.
We write poems that, in the background, become strings of numbers. We think in the abstract space of numbers, even when we pronounce: leu, leva, lira, yen or dollar. And the phenomenon is intensifying. Tomorrow, those incapable of processing information in this way will form the amorphous mass of functional illiterates. Everything we will know, do, smell, will have a numerical substrate. It will be... numerical calculation.
